Penn State and now the Schreyer Honors College does! Penn State has a YouTube channel with a number of great videos, including two about the SHC. We have also just created a YouTube channel for the SHC! The first video is up and is of the opening monologue from this year’s Late Night With the Dean. You can view it here!

Come cheer on the State College Spikes with SHC friends and faculty! The Schreyer Honors College Student Council has secured a block of tickets for the State College Spikes minor league baseball game on Wednesday, September 3 at 7:05 PM. This means that Scholars have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for $6 and sit together at the game. Tickets are available in C-4 Atherton Hall until the day of the game or they can be purchased at the first Student Council meeting on Tuesday, September 2. The Student Council meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Clock Lounge, Atherton Hall. But remember, tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. I enjoy taking pictures but rarely have time. This evening others were in charge, so I picked up the camera. Enjoy! More pictures can be seen on Facebook with this link.
Today is move-in for our new first-year students! We are ready and eager for their arrival. SHO Time preparation is done, our Mentors are here and in place, and the dorms are ready for all their stuff. As we wait for them to arrive, a little perspective is always nice. Most of these folks were born in 1990 and each year the Chronicle of Higher Ed is reports on the Beloit College annual “Mind-Set List.” This is a subscription only site, but for the next few days you can use this link to see the full list. In the meantime, some of my favorites:
3. They have always been looking for Carmen Sandiego.
6. Shampoo and conditioner have always been available in the same bottle.
23. Schools have always been concerned about multiculturalism.
25. There have always been gay rabbis.
26. Wayne Newton has never had a mustache.
29. Roseanne Barr has never been invited to sing the national anthem again.
I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Just a quick note between a day full of meetings to say that we are ready for SHOtime! Orientation starts on Wednesday (the Leadership Jumpstart class arrived on Sunday as did our RAs and SAs). I can’t wait to see everyone, new and old students alike. We have got a great orientation program lined up and an excellent semester of activities planned. Be sure to check the listserv for announcements starting next week, it will be chock full of all sorts of great info.
See you soon!
As I hope you have all seen, we are going to try a little blogging experiment with about a dozen first-year Scholars. But any Penn State student can start a blog! Just head over to this Quickstart Guide and get started! You don’t have to wait until you are actually on campus, so why not start your blog now?
Also, don’t forget about our “official” student bloggers at http://engage.shc.psu.edu/students/. Once we get the semester under way we will be looking for few new students (any year) to joino our blogging team. That blog is a place where current students can share thoughts about their Schreyer experience and where others interested in the SHC can ask questions and hear from the students themselves.
