Important Notice! Travel Grant Deadline Tomorrow

DEADLINE FOR SCHREYER AMBASSADOR TRAVEL GRANTS FOR SPRING 2007 – 11/1

If you are planning an education abroad experience in spring 2007, you must submit your Schreyer Ambassador Travel Grant application by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, to C-004 Atherton Hall. (Education abroad includes study, research, service, or internship/co-op abroad–it also includes travel as a member of a Penn State performing-arts group.) We will not be able to fund requests received after that time. If you are not certain about your travel plans, for instance over March break, you should still file the application based upon the travel that you are considering. The SATG form is available in C-004 Atherton Hall and online on the SHC Web site, under Current Students and International Programs. If you have questions after reviewing the form, contact Dr. Stoller at rjs27@psu.edu.

Who wouldn’t want to be a millionaire?

(From Emily Hamel [our PR intern])
Aaron Wynkoop, a junior scholar majoring in biology, was chosen to be a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for the game show’s “College Week.”

The week-long edition of “College Week” will be aired Nov. 20 to Nov. 24. Hopeful contestants first needed to pass a multiple-choice test before a short interview with one of the show’s producers.

Wynkoop went to the test with his brother without intending to try out.

“My brother asked me to go with him [to the audition]. I was just going to stand in line with him, but when I got to the front, I decided to just take the test,” Wynkoop said.

“My brother didn’t past the test, but he’s really supportive of me. He’s one of my lifelines,” Wynkoop added. Wynkoop said he didn’t even have time to prepare for the test.

“I thought the test was interesting,” Wynkoop said. “It was hard, but I wasn’t really worried about it. I tried out the day before I took the MCATs.”

When asked about his expectations for winning on the show, Wynkoop said “I don’t really have any goals. I just don’t want to miss the first question because I would never live that down. I have lots of school to pay for, so my money would go toward that. Med school tends to be pretty expensive, so I’ll have to save some for that.”

This went out on the listserv but it is important enough to repeat here:

HOUSING CONTRACTS FOR 2007
If you are a current Scholar, living in Scholars’ housing, and would like to renew your contract for the 2007-08 academic year, please follow these NEW procedures:
All Schreyer Scholars will need to request a housing contract for the next academic year (this is a change from past years, where contracts were automatically renewed).
Contracts can be requested at http://www.eliving.psu.edu/ between November 30 – December 7, 2006
Residence Life staff will be hosting MANDATORY informational meetings in the residence halls in early November to review this new process. Please watch for details on when these meetings will be held.
